Starting this Thursday, June 17th Waste Management will start delivering recycling bins to residents. This process could take up to a week to complete. If you do not receive a recycling bin by Monday, June 28th please contact the borough at 412-781-0213. Frequently Asked Questions

The first pick-up of recyclables will be on Tuesday, July 6th with your regular trash; however, recyclables will only be picked up every other week. Recyclables allowed include; glass bottles, #1 & #2, plastics 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 and bi-metal or aluminum cans. No paper, magazines or newsprint will be accepted. The Abitibi dumpsters located around town will still accept paper.

Also starting in July Waste Management will be taking over the billing of garbage from the borough. The fee will remain at $41.00 per unit, per quarter.

Do I have to recycle?
No, it’s voluntary. But we recommend everyone participate as it costs nothing extra to the community and benefits far outweigh the minor inconvenience
What are the dates for every other Tuesday?
2010 dates - July 6 - 20 / Aug 3 - 17 - 31 /Sept 14 – 28 / Oct 12-26 / Nov 9 – 23 / Dec 7- 21
Will I still be billed by Aspinwall borough?
No. Waste Management will be billing residents directly and will send the bills quarterly.
Where do I put the bin for pick up?
Place your bin alongside the regular garbage cans.
Can I purchase another recycling bin?
Yes, you may purchase additional bins for $7.00 each from the borough.
What if I have more recyclables than will fit in the bin? Do I have to buy another bin?
No. You can place the overflow into a bag and put it with the recycling bin away from the trash cans.
Do they take any kind of glass?
Only bottles and jars, all colors. No window glass, mirrors etc…
Do I have to rinse my cans bottles and plastics?
Yes, rinse them just enough to remove food residue. This will prevent attracting rodents
Do I have to remove labels?
No, you don’t have remove labels on anything, not glass, cans or plastics.
Do I have to sort the glass plastic and cans?
No.
Will they take cardboard; if not what can I do with it?
No, they do not take cardboard. You can put it out with the regular garbage pickup each week.
What do I do if someone steals my recycle bin?
Call the borough office to arrange for a replacement. The cost is $7.00.
Do I have to put my recyclables in trash bag before placing them in the bin?
No, only overflow that won’t fit in the bin. |
