On Saturday April 24th, Aspinwall will celebrate the 5th year of Aspinwall Green Streets the same way it has the last five years… picking-up trash throughout the neighborhood and then enjoying live music, food and refreshments on Brilliant Avenue.

Aspinwall Green Streets was started in 2005 by then Aspinwall resident Liz Cothren, who found her inspiration from Keep America Beautiful’s The Great American Clean-up, which actually started back in the early 1950’s as an effort to encourage people to care for communities through volunteer participation. Liz has since moved out of the area but Green Streets continues through the efforts of her Aspinwall-resident daughter Mary, as well as Joe Giuffre, Tripp Clarke and Aspinwall Beans ‘n Cream owner George Marsico, who arranges the post clean-up entertainment.

Residents will gather at 10am in front of Beans ‘n Cream and fan out to pick-up all sorts of trash from the railroad tracks along Freeport Road to the paths around Fireman’s Park. Aspinwall Green Streets is a great opportunity to invest some time in beautifying the neighborhood, as well as an excellent way to teach your children about social responsibility.

The 5th Aspinwall Green Streets, which is now an outreach effort of Aspinwall Neighborhood Watch, will take place Saturday, April 24th from 10am until 2pm. Garbage bags, gloves and safety vests will be handed out to all volunteers. Aspinwall Neighborhood Watch will also be raffling off gift certificates to local merchants after the cleanup. Please join in on the fun! Inquiries can be sent to aspinwallneighborhoodwatch@gmail.com.
